Katarina Witt began ice skating at age five. Then, her talents became apparent, and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she was accepted into an institution specifically designed for children who have athletic talents. This was where she was introduced to her coach Jutta Muller. Witt had her first breakthrough year in 1982, when she placed second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since then, her grace and beauty have captured all the attention of people. Olympic success at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the female silver medal for figure skating in a close-fought competition. The winner of the competition was a more competitive race the following year. While she was unable to win the free-skating competition, the medal was given to her for her performance on the compulsory figures, as well as on the short program. Witt is the only repeated winner in women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed at Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career as an actor. The team finished seventh, but she wowed the crowd even though she didn't win the medal. In 1995, Witt received her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
